Ten top tips for keeping your roof damage free

Don’t get caught out by the weather, here are our ten top tips for keeping your roof damage free…

Ten top tips for keeping your roof damage free1. Check the inside of your house first – look for signs of water damage such as bubbling in your paint work or dark or brown spots on the ceiling.

2. Check the loft on a sunny day – can you see any sunlight shining through? Check for signs of leaks or damp.

3. Check the outside of your roof using a ladder but make sure you are safe and don’t walk on the roof! Always call for professional help if you need it – we are always happy to assist.

4. When checking the outside check for missing tiles, dark patches and also look for any signs of the roof being uneven and signs of aging.

5. Next look at the chimney and any damage surrounding the mortar or structure of the chimney.

6. Check for moss – moss holds water and needs to be removed – contact a professional if you aren’t happy to do this yourself.

7. Keep your gutters cleared – debris in the gutter can prevent water from flowing through to the downspouts and clear of your roof. By cleaning the gutters regularly this stops water soaking into the roof causing damp and rotting.

8. Check for overhanging trees – branches that can break off in a storm can cause damage and send shingles and tiles flying. Keep branches trimmed and away from your roof.

9. Whilst the weather is nice check for any roof damages and repair them as soon as possible. It is easier to fix minor roof problems when the weather is nice then mid another storm.

10. Stay safe – always put your safety first, contact a professional if you don’t have the correct tools, safety equipment and clothing.
