What is the difference between Composite and uPVC Doors?

When deciding on a new door it’s always good to initially do your research and find out what door will be best for your property. A question we get asked a lot is what is the difference between composite and uPVC doors? Composite doors are now extremely popular, but what is the difference between them and the historically popular uPVC door?

Here is a quick guide of the differences…

  • Composite DooruPVC doors are purely made of plastic and initially look good, but need regular cleaning to keep them maintained. Composite doors are manufactured to the highest standards and made from a number of high quality materials which are pressed and glued together under high pressure making them strong, durable, secure and resistant to all weather conditions. They still need cleaning, but don’t age as quickly as uPVC if left alone.
  • Composite doors are much thicker than uPVC doors, coming in at 44mm, compared to uPVC at 28mm. This means that security is better with a composite door with its strong structural frame and glass-reinforced plastic. They also provide excellent thermal and sound insulation.
  • uPVC doors have minimal variety and colour choices whereas a composite door comes in a multitude of colours, including glass and ironmongery choices. Letting you choose a bespoke traditional or more contemporary style door for your property.
  • Composite doors are great value for money, excellent quality and with a life span of around 35 years they are the low maintenance and durable option for many of our customers.
